The Seychelles consists of 115 islands; 41 of which are granite Inner Islands. Surrounding the Seychelles’ plateau, these are some of the most ancient granite isles on earth. There are a total of 43 Inner islands including 2 islands based on coral. The remaining 74 Outer islands form the coral isles and reefs and are classified into five groups: the Alphonse Farquhar, Amirantes, Southern Coral and Aldabra. For those on a budget looking for cheap holidays, the Seychelles offers a wealth of natural beauty.

The Republic of Seychelles dates back to 1770; the first settlers were of French origins and so the Republic has felt the effects of the devastating French Revolution. During the 19th Century, Victoria was named the capital and the reverberations of the abolitionist movement were felt in the economy. Seychelles only became independent from Britain and established itself as a Republic relatively recently, in 1976.

The climate on the islands varies throughout the year; humidity is quite common with average temperatures on Mahé ranging from 24°C to 30 °C. The lowest temperatures occur between July and August, dropping to about 24 C.
Cooler winds blow from May to November, making this an ideal time to visit for cheap holidays in pleasant temperatures. Highest temperatures occur from December to April.

Mahé is the main Inner granite island and along with two of the smaller islands, La Digue and Praslin, is the heart of the Seychelles, both culturally and economically. Here you will find the cosmopolitan capital, Victoria, the international airport, a whole host of tourist attractions as well as some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, perfect for sunshine filled, cheap holidays.

There is a strong sense of the influence of the Seychelles Anglo-French origins in its architecture and the mixture of its well-preserved architectural heritage alongside some of the more modern buildings creates a wonderfully vibrant intermingling of cultural tastes.

For those seeking cheap holidays in a place where the art scene is dynamic and animated, a visit to the Seychelles is a must. With a large number of local and visiting artists exhibiting and performing regularly, a wide variety of mediums are used in artistic endeavours and painters, traditional dancers, musicians, poets and sculptors can be found here all year round, soaking up the sun and the inspiration derived from the stunning surroundings. It is not difficult to see why these islands attract such creative people. Many of the local musicians that perform here are greatly influenced by traditional Creole music and dance, which has elements of European, African and Malagasy cultures.

Creole cuisine is yet another example of the incredible results of the Seychelles all-encompassing ethnicity. Hints of delicate oriental flavours can be detected amongst the spicy and exotic tastes of Indian and African dishes. Delicious fresh fish curries, rice and tropical fruit are often served for very little, ideal for people needing cheap holidays.

Strict Environmental legislation protects the breathtaking flora and fauna of the Seychelles and whilst it has suffered a certain amount of loss in terms of biodiversity in its early years, its fragile ecosystems are now preserved with the utmost care. Some of the rarest species on earth inhabit this natural haven and almost half of the islands terrain is devoted to National Parks.

The Seychelles is truly vibrant, welcoming community suitable for those seeking exciting and cheap holidays. It will revive and inspire all who choose to visit its shores.

Reunion is a unique island located in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
Reunion History
The Portuguese were the first European visitors, finding it uninhabited in 1635. Later, the island was occupied by France. It was named Reunion in 1793 by a decree of the Convention with the fall of the House of Bourbon. In 1801, the island was renamed “le Bonaparte,” after Napoleon Bonaparte. The island was taken by the British navy in 1810 but returned to France by the Congress of Vienna in 1815. During this time, the island was used as a stop over point on the East Indies trade route. French immigration supplemented by influxes of Africans, Chinese, Malays, and Indians gave the island its ethnic mix. However, the opening of the Suez Canal cost the island its importance and its economy suffered greatly as a result.

Reunion Culture
Reunion Island’s culture is a combination of French, African, Indian, and Chinese cultures. The 700,000 inhabitants of the island speak mostly French or Creole, and about 75% of the residents are Roman Catholic. This is largely a society respectful of each other’s diverse cultures and the island has suffered no political or social unrest in almost two centuries. Inhabitants of the island are extremely friendly and happy (you would be too if you lived here) and the culture here is very relaxed.

Visit a Volcano- Reunion’s rugged interior is formed by Salazies Mountain in the west and the Grand Brule Mountain in the east, where visitors will find the island’s still-active volcano, the Piton de la Fournaise.
Check out the cirques- The island’s three cirques dominate the topography of the interior portion of Reunion. Often described as natural amphitheaters, cirques (a volcano that collapsed upon itself) offer not only amazing photo opportunities but also hiking adventures and wildlife sightings.
Hike- Reunion has amazing lush, green forests where you’ll view birds, hike through gorges, view amazing and abundant waterfalls.
Surf- The lively town of St Leu is the perfect location for avid surfers.

The Geography of Reunion
The island of Reunion is only 63 kilometer long, 45 kilometers wide; and covers 2512 square kilometers. Reunion is a volcanic island with similar geography and climate to that of the American island of Hawaii. The Piton de la Fournaise, a volcano on the eastern end of Reunion, rises more than 2631 meters above sea level. The island has many collapsed calderas and canyons to the south west of the mountain that make for great hiking. The slopes of are heavily forested.
